Program Title:
Contracts and Insurance in Lean Construction

Speaker:
Will Lichtig is Vice President, Business & Process Development for The Boldt Company. He has over 25 years experience in the construction industry. He has been instrumental in instituting innovative project delivery solutions, including Lean Project Delivery, and developing supporting commercial documents, including the Integrated Agreement for Lean Project Delivery, incentive fee plans, and risk pool plans. His innovations and contributions to the industry were acknowledged by Engineering News-Record magazine when he was named an "ENR Top 25 Newsmaker" for 2007.
Abstract:
Standard construction contracts and risk instruments often conflict with the spirit of Lean Construction techniques, and with the theories that drives Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) methodology. Will Lichtig of Boldt is a leading voice in the Lean Construction movement, and was one of the original authors of Sutter Health's Integrated Form of Agreement. Listen to Will explain the theories and practical concerns of contracting and insuring in a Lean environment.

Lean Construction Institute (LCI)
The Lean Construction Institute (LCI), a non-profit research organization, was founded in August 1997. LCI's purpose is to develop and disseminate new knowledge regarding the management of work in design, engineering and construction for capital facilities. LCI has developed the Lean Project Delivery System© (LPDS), and the Last Planner® System of production control. Lean Construction is a production management-based approach to project delivery - a new way to design and build capital facilities. Lean production management has caused a revolution in manufacturing design, supply and assembly. Applied to construction, Lean changes the way work is done throughout the delivery process. Lean Construction extends from the objectives of a lean production system - maximize value and minimize waste - to specific techniques and applies them in a new project delivery process extending from project definition through design, supply and assembly.
The Los Angeles Area Community of Practice is being developed to provide local lean support to owners, architects and designers, engineers, contractors, specialty contractors and suppliers who are doing business in the LA Area. We invite project delivery team members to meet together as a Community of Practice to learn, share and develop a lean community in the LA Area. For further assistance please contact lci-los-angeles@leanconstruction.org
